A square 80-acre tract is about 1,867 feet on a side. A trail camera reliably detects a deer out to perhaps 40 to 80 feet, so no number of cameras "covers" the acreage; they sample the places animals pass. Add one camera for each food plot or field. For security, count gates, drives and buildings instead of acres.

Should trail cameras be spread evenly across a property?
No. Put cameras where movement concentrates: food plots, water, creek crossings, fence gaps, field corners and saddles between ridges. An evenly spaced grid wastes cameras on places animals rarely pass. The exception is a formal camera survey, which spaces sites roughly evenly to avoid counting the same deer twice.
